Troubleshooting
Connection & Sync
"Not syncing" or stuck offline
- Check your phone has signal or WiFi
- Go to Settings and check the sync status
- Try Reset Sync in Settings — this clears local data and re-downloads everything
- If the problem persists, sign out and sign back in
"Session expired"
Your login session has expired. Sign out in Settings and sign back in with your email and password.
Events stuck in queue
If events aren't uploading:
- Check you have an internet connection
- Wait a few minutes — the app retries automatically
- If events remain stuck after reconnecting, try Reset Sync in Settings
Voice
Voice not working
- Make sure the speech model is downloaded (Settings → Speech Model)
- Check your phone's microphone permissions for Kilnside
- Try typing instead — the text input works the same way
Voice picks up wrong words
- Speak clearly and at a normal pace
- Use the animal's full name or tag number
- If it gets it wrong, just correct it: "no, I meant Ewe 15"
Tags & Scanning
NFC sticker not reading
- Make sure NFC is enabled on your phone (Settings → Connected devices)
- Hold your phone flat against the sticker, not at an angle
- Try moving your phone slowly across the sticker — the NFC antenna position varies by phone model
RFID wand not connecting
- Make sure Bluetooth is on
- Check the wand is powered on and not in sleep mode
- Go to Settings → RFID Wand → Scan for devices
- If it was previously paired, it should reconnect — press the wand button to wake it
"Unknown tag" when scanning a known animal
- The tag might not be linked yet — use the link option to pair it
- If it was recently tagged, the link might not have synced yet — check sync status
App Issues
App is slow or unresponsive
- Close and reopen the app
- Check available storage on your phone
- If the problem persists, try Reset Sync in Settings to refresh local data
Screen went blank or crashed
- Close the app completely and reopen it
- Your data is safe — events are stored locally and won't be lost
